After we crossed the border from Kenya we raced up the early part of Ethiopia to meet our friends Jeff, Celeste, Myles and Caleb (who live in Addis Ababa) at one of Ethiopia’s Rift Valley Lakes – Lake Langano. Unfortunately the road from the border to there was totally horrible. Dad says it is the worst tar road we have driven in Africa. More potholes than tar. Even worse than the tar part of the road from Maputo to Ponta D’Ouro, for those of you who have driven that one. Fortunately there are major roadworks planned, but unfortunately they are barely started. The road was so bad, in fact, that my mother could not even take a picture of it. You’ll just have to believe me. It was really bad.
But then we got to the lake and life was good again. Our friends were with their friends who also had friends visiting from Canada, which adds up to a lot of friends, and especially a lot of kids, which make me particularly happy. And which makes for a really fun time at the lake. As you can clearly see below. Thanks everybody for a really good start to our Ethiopia trip. For the last picture, the whole group posed like World Cup football players. I think we would have made a pretty good team....
